My background

I am 24 years old born in Auckland New Zealand. From the age of six I started racing dinghies at Wakatere yacht club in Auckland. I graduated from Takapuna Grammar school in 2001. I started working for Team NZ in their sail loft for the 2003 Americas Cup. This sparked a three way balancing act as I studied sport and recreation at Auckland University of Technology and was accepted into the RNZYS youth training program. This kept me very busy and I learnt some great time management skills and valuable experience which enabled me to take my sailing to a professional level from an early age.

I did two years with the Youth programme, having won the Match racing competition as a bowman and coming second in both the fleet and harbour racing. I joined a match racing team called Kiwi Match where I began as a tailer/pitman and moved into a Trimming position for Laurie Jury. We competed over 3 seasons around Australia, Europe and the USA. On our return to New Zealand I decided to try my hand at some offshore sailing. I raced in the Auckland to Fiji race, Melbourne to Vanuatu race, then went on to win my division in the Sydney to Hobart race.

Offshore racing became a passion for me so I headed off to Europe again to compete in the Fastnet and Middle sea races. In between these events I was racing for Dennis Conner on his classic yacht Cotton Blossom Two. At the end of this season I returned back to NZ to run a Cookson 50 for a few months and to compete in the round north island two handed race. It was after this race that I decided to set myself up as a full time sailing professional.

I am dedicated, friendly, easy going, consistent, relaxed, loyal and driven.

I am hardworking and reliable, I strive to achieve the best result in everything I do, whether that is racing, delivering boats coaching or any other kind of work. I love being in a team environment and I strive to get the most out of every situation.

What I see myself doing

I want to join a team that is committed to winning offshore regattas. I see myself in a position as a trimmer with strengths in navigation steering and as a bowman to supplement my abilities. I would like to be in a position to make a difference to the boat and have the opportunity to ensure all the systems are working and that the boat and her crew are in perfect racing condition prior to the start.
